Communications and Marketing Internship

Twin Rivers Council for the Arts in Mankato is seeking applications from interested students for the position of Communications and Marketing Intern.  This is an ideal internship for students of Communications Studies or Mass Media and those seeking work experience in a non-profit or arts based environment.

Employer Information: Twin Rivers Council for the Arts is a regional arts and culture alliance that works with the public and its affiliates to ensure that arts and culture thrive in Greater Mankato. It is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the arts, cultivates public participation by connecting people to arts and culture, and creates partnerships between the business, cultural, and academic communities.



Intern Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intern will report directly to the Executive Director and will support all of the Arts Council’s mass communication operations in its public and affiliate arenas.   The Intern will support the Arts Council’s planning and operations by:

  • Assist in the development, planning and implementation of specified Twin Rivers events (i.e. CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour, Shop Small Artist Fair, Art Wander, etc.).

  • Assist in maintenance and management of online communications, website and social media.

  • Assist with production and design of weekly events eNewsletter and other marketing materials.

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of databases as necessary.

  • Assist in the distribution or delivery of marketing materials.

  • Other duties as needed.


Qualifications:

  • On track to receive Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or mass media.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to interact professionally with business and community leaders.

  • Highly organized and attentive to details with excellent follow-through.

  • Skilled in managing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.

  • Some Photoshop, InDesign or Canva design experience a plus.

The Intern will learn:

  • How to plan and develop marketing materials for various arts programming

  • Website content development and management

  • Development and implementation of Communication Plans for various events/programs

  • Non-profit management


Compensation: This is an unpaid internship position - 10-15 hrs/wk; Optional paid hours on Thursday evenings at the front desk from 4-8pm ($9.00/hr).
